A few words about the gîte…
The house was built by the administration of Water and Forests in 1868 and was the residence of the forester who was in charge of the forest district.
The forester’s house was surrounded by buildings that served as stables, barn and dairy and had a bread oven, indispensable elements for a daily life almost in autarky. The orchard, with its Norman apples, allowed the production of cider and calvados, as well as the supply of fruit.
My grandfather, a forester, had occupied the house since 1939, and bought it when the administration sold it in 1960. Two new generations of foresters have lived here since then.
After work to transform the house into a gîte, we are happy to welcome you in this preserved and authentic environment, to make you discover the beauty of the place.

Two sofas, an armchair, accent lighting, two bookcases, a pellet stove: a beautiful space of relaxation! The dining room, with its large table and its 6 chairs, leaves plenty of room for everyone.
1 bedroom with 1 double bed (160x200), 2 bedrooms with 2 single beds (90x200). Blackout blinds and roller shutters for total darkness. Calm and quiet: no neighbors, no opposite, no traffic!
Bright, colorful and full of surprises, the playroom is designed for the enjoyment of children - and their parents! A library, various games, table and pencils board games... Enjoy!
The charm of the retro is combined with everything that makes up modern comfort: extra-flat shower with extra-flat tray of large dimensions (120×80), electric towel dryer, heated floor, hair dryer, coat hooks...
No opposite live, no neighbors, enjoy the peace and quiet in a preserved environment! Perfect to take advantage of the outdoor facilities: garden furniture, lounge, parasol...

Can we exceed the accommodation capacity?
The gîte has been designed for 6 people, in terms of beds, crockery, sanitary facilities, etc.
For reasons of insurance, but also for reasons of confidence, we therefore ask you to respect the capacity of reception.
In the event of non-compliance with this rule, we will be obliged to refuse entry to the premises or to end the stay without possible refund.

Are children welcome?
Of course ! For the youngest children, we provide a wooden bed in the bedroom with the double bed, a high chair, cutlery, cups and plastic plates. A changing table, a bathtub and a hiking baby carrier can be lent to you free of charge on request. Please specify this when you make your reservation.
The playroom will delight young and old alike with its toys, games and books. Children are under the full responsibility of their parents.

What are the arrival and departure times?
On the day of your arrival, the gîte will be at your disposal from 5pm. On the day of your departure, the gîte must be left clean from 11am.
We will systematically contact you a few days before your arrival to settle the last logistical details.

Is there a cleaning package?
We have chosen not to offer a cleaning package, asking you to do some simple housework to keep the gite tidy and clean. A detailed list of the housework to be done by you will be given. Cleaning products and equipment are left at your disposal.

Are bed linen & towels provided?
Sheets are provided, as well as towels, tea towels and bath mats. Beds are made on arrival.

Is this a "smoking" or "non-smoking" gîte?
It is strictly forbidden to smoke in the gîte. Outside, we ask you to be very careful with your cigarette butts, due to the forest environment.

Are pets allowed?
Pets are not allowed.
However, you may encounter foxes, deer or rabbits in the forest and you will surely hear owls!

Does the gîte have a television?
The gîte does not have a television. The spectacle of the forest or a fire in the pellet stove, a game of board games or a good book (in English or French) should keep your evenings busy!

Does the gîte de la Coutume have an Internet connection?
In order to stay connected, you will have Internet access.

We do not rent bikes directly, but we can point you to service providers.
