Welcome! Would you like to enjoy a nature holiday in Normandy with your family or friends? In the heart of the forest of Brotonne, we welcome you in this old forest house totally renovated to make it a haven of peace and greenery. Spacious and comfortable, the Gîte de la Coutume sleeps up to six guests.
A few words about the Gîte de la Coutume
The Gîte de la Coutume is a former forester’s house built in 1868 by the French Water and Forestry Administration. At the time, it was home to the forest ranger and his family. Surrounded by outbuildings, a vegetable garden, dairy cows and a bread oven, the property supported a largely self-sufficient rural way of life. The nearby orchard provided apples and fruit for the traditional production of cider and Calvados.
In 1939, Emmanuel’s grandfather, who was also a forest ranger, moved into the house. He bought it in 1960 and turned it into a family home, where two generations of foresters grew up in close harmony with nature and the changing seasons.
Today, we are committed to keeping this history alive by welcoming you to this place filled with memories, trees and silence.

Depending on the season, a supply of wood pellets will be ready for your first fire in the stove. A starter kit is provided, including tea bags, Dolce Gusto pods, oil, vinegar and basic condiments.

Upon arrival, we will welcome you and show you around the house. You will also receive a detailed welcome booklet, available in English, Dutch, Spanish and German, with useful information about nearby shops, services and amenities.
A tourist guide in your native language, put together by us, will remind you of the must-see spots in the area, but above all, it will reveal the best places to visit and the most beautiful walks to take in the immediate vicinity of the Gîte de la Coutume. We also provide tourist brochures to help you plan your activities and visits during your stay.
A starter kit with coffee, tea, condiments, paper towels and toilet paper is provided so you can settle in comfortably from the moment you arrive.

The gîte has been designed for 6 people, in terms of beds, crockery, sanitary facilities, etc.
For reasons of insurance, but also for reasons of confidence, we therefore ask you to respect the capacity of reception.
In the event of non-compliance with this rule, we will be obliged to refuse entry to the premises or to end the stay without possible refund.

Of course ! For the youngest children, we provide a wooden bed in the bedroom with the double bed, a high chair, cutlery, cups and plastic plates. A changing table, a bathtub and a hiking baby carrier can be lent to you free of charge on request. Please specify this when you make your reservation.
