Welcome! Would you like to enjoy a nature holiday in Normandy with your family or friends? In the heart of the forest of Brotonne, we welcome you in this old forest house totally renovated to make it a haven of peace and greenery. Spacious and comfortable, the "gîte de la Coutume" can accommodate up to 6 people.
A few words about the Gîte de la Coutume
The Gîte de la Coutume is a former forest ranger’s house built in 1868 by the Water and Forestry Department. At the time, it served as accommodation for the forest ranger and was surrounded by outbuildings: a stable, a cowshed, a dairy and a bread oven, which enabled a completely self-sufficient lifestyle. The adjoining orchard provided apples and fruit for the traditional production of cider and calvados.
In 1939, Emmanuel’s grandfather, also a forester, moved in. He bought the house in 1960 and turned it into a family home, where two generations of foresters grew up, in tune with nature and the seasons.
Today, we are committed to keeping this history alive and welcoming you to this place steeped in memories, surrounded by trees and silence.

Upon your arrival, we’ll be there to welcome you and show you around the house.
You’ll receive a detailed welcome booklet (in English, Dutch, Spanish, or German!) to help you quickly get your bearings. It also includes recommendations for nearby shops and amenities.
A tourist guide in your native language, put together by us, will remind you of the must-see spots in the area, but above all, it will reveal the best places to visit and the most beautiful walks to take in the immediate vicinity of the Gîte de la Coutume. We also provide tourist brochures to help you plan your activities and visits during your stay.
A “starter kit” including coffee, tea, condiments, paper towels, and toilet paper ensures you can start your stay with peace of mind.

Can we exceed the accommodation capacity?
The gîte has been designed for 6 people, in terms of beds, crockery, sanitary facilities, etc.
For reasons of insurance, but also for reasons of confidence, we therefore ask you to respect the capacity of reception.
In the event of non-compliance with this rule, we will be obliged to refuse entry to the premises or to end the stay without possible refund.

Of course ! For the youngest children, we provide a wooden bed in the bedroom with the double bed, a high chair, cutlery, cups and plastic plates. A changing table, a bathtub and a hiking baby carrier can be lent to you free of charge on request. Please specify this when you make your reservation.

We will systematically contact you a few days before your arrival to settle the last logistical details.

We have chosen not to offer a cleaning package, asking you to do some simple housework to keep the gite tidy and clean. A detailed list of the housework to be done by you will be given. Cleaning products and equipment are left at your disposal.
